Specifier Monthly Newsletter, April 2017

Achieving fire ratings over combustible decks has sometimes left specifiers with limited choices from a roofing product perspective. Weight concerns of gypsum products or height of existing flashing meant compromising on R-value in the roofing system in order to accommodate the fire rating. Luna & Associates and Carlisle SynTec Systems are pleased announce an additional option to solving that problem. SecurShield® HD FR Polyiso insulation.

Securshield HD FR insulation is similar in appearance to existing ½” HD products, however it is designed for direct application to combustible decks. This ½”-thick, high-density cover board achieves a UL 790 Class A combustible deck assembly rating without the need for fire-rated slip sheets or other thermal barrier products. SecurShield HD FR offers a variety of features and benefits, including:

• UL 790 Class A approval for direct application to combustible decks • ASTM C1289 Type II, Class 4, Grade 1 designation • R-2.5 insulating value • Excellent resistance to moisture and mold • Lightweight and easy to handle • Ideal for new construction and re-cover projects • Suitable for mechanically fastened and fully adhered assemblies • 4’x8’ and 4’x’4’ sizes • 109 psi compressive strength.

SecurShield HD FR is the latest addition to Carlisle’s line of SecurShield HD Polyiso insulating cover board products. These products have become increasingly popular due to their superior insulating properties and lighter weight when compared to gypsum-based cover boards. Lighter, easier to handle products with higher R-value translates to less labor costs for installation and more of the building owners’ investment staying on the roof.

As always, if you have any questions or you would like to discuss a project where Securshield HD FR may help determine your specification approach, please contact your local Luna & Associates sales representative.
